Foreword by award-winning writer James Salter, author of The Hunters and various other books. Then-Lieutenant Kasler flew an F-86 Sabre Jet on Salter\'s wingin Korea. Afterword by NAM-POW and Medal of Honor recipient Vice Admiral James Stockdale. Colonel Kasler volunteered himself into three wars: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. In WWII he flew combat missions over Japan as an eighteen-year-old B-29 tail gunner. In Korea he became America\'s fifteenth Jet Ace. In Vietnam he flew 91 attack missions in the F-105 Thunderchief before he was shot down, critically injured, and spent more than 6-1/2 years as a POW in Hanoi. He is the only person, living or dead, with three awards of the Air Force Cross, a decoration for combat valor second only to the Medal of Honor. Further, he ranks among America\'s top tenmost highly decorated combat veterans of all time. Besides his three awards of the Air Force Cross, he also earned two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, nine Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars (one with \"V\" device), two Purple Hearts, and eleven Air Medals.
