Some time ago I was invited to the home of a woman who, with her husband, bought the home of Edwina Williams, mother of the playwright, in the late 1970s.
The home was filled with Tennessee Williams\' personal possessions, and in 1985 many of the items were saleed at Sotheby\'s.
This check is part of the last remaining material from that home, which I purchased from her.
While I do not have a certificate of authenticity, I have photographed Mr. William\'s bank statement from Chase National that was overseen by Liebling-Wood, the talent agency that represented Mr. Williams. This check came inside the envelope sent from the bank to the agency.
The check is dated September 29, 1945 in the amount of $5.00 made out to Dr. R.J. O\'Connell. It is endorsed by the doctor on the reverse.
Of course, the check is signed by the playwright.
