Click to View Image Album I have acquired a large collection of early picture books and publications about Milwaukee, Wisconsin dated from the late 1800s through the 1920s. Many are quite SCARCE AND THIS ONE APPEARS TO BE PARTICULARLY SCARCE. This is \"The Lady Elgin Disaster September 8, 1860\" by Charles M. Scanlan. Published by the Author, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1928. Describes the collision and sinking of the lake steamer, Lady Elgin in stormy conditions on Lake Michigan. Author ties together many factors playing in the background of the tragedy, including the Slave Question in America at the time of the accident. THIS COPY IS SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR OF FRONT ENDPAPER. Laid into the book is a letter from a Milwaukee attorney who had received this copy from the author and later presented the book to a newspaper columnist. There is also a 1940 news clipping reporting on the death of the author which cites this particular book. Book is in Very Good+ condition--clean, tight, only light signs of wear. Spine has darkened. Book measures 5 1/8 X 6 7/8, 107 pages. I have not been able to locate any other original copies of this work in all of my internet searches. I will offer this original, SCARCE, SIGNED copy for only $175.00 plus $3.25 S&H in the US. Shipping costs to Canada will be considerably less than the general international rates quoted. PLEASE CHECK ALL OF MY LISTINGS FOR MORE MILWAUKEE ITEMS. I WILL PROVIDE REDUCED, COMBINED SHIPPING RATES FOR MULTIPLE PURCHASES. Thanks for shopping mellowpagesrarebooks.com
