Offered today is this rare 1st edition of The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, also known as The Jefferson Bible.

The original manuscript ofThe Life & Morals of Jesus of Nazareth wascompiled by Thomas Jefferson in approximately 1819and was purchased by the U.S. National Museum in 1895.

The Fifty-seventh Congress (March 1901-1903) then made a resolution that this manuscript be printed and bound (9,000 copies) by photolithographic process with an introduction by Dr. Cyrus Adler, Librarian of the Smithsonian Institution for the use of Congress. (taken from the Introduction by Adler, pp 7-19). This book is one of those 9,000 printed by the 57th Congress.

This particular 1st edition was found with detached covers and end papers and was professionally restored using the original covers, spine title and endpapers. All repairs were done using archival papers, binding and tape.
