The Pageant of Persia: A Record of Travel by Motor in Persia, With an Account of Its Ancient and Modern Ways. By Henry Filmer [James Rives Childs]. Bobbs-Merrill 1936. Inscribed by the author (he signs as \"Henry Filmer\"), James Rives Childs, who would go on to serve as US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and subsequently Ethiopia, to George C. Arnold, Jr., a fellow American diplomat. A work of history and political/social observation informed by travel (some of it on the back of a post truck), rather than a continuous first-person travel narrative. In very good minus condition. No jacket. The corners are bumped and there is scratching to the rear cover; otherwise moderate external wear, slight discoloration. Light foxing to inside covers, endpapers, and the margins of some plates, but pages very clean overall. The binding is square and firm.
