Up for sale is a very RARE 1st 1944 \"Special Edition\" of \"THE PRIEST In the Epistles of St. Paul\" published as a \"Limited Edition\" for an Upstate NY retreat at the famous Auriesville, NY shrine . The inside book plate is described as follows: \"A Remembrance of the Lenten Retreat for the Priests of the Diocese of Albany, NY\" One Thousand Nine-Hundred and Forty Eight at the Sacred Heart Retreat House in Auriesville, New York.......This unique volume was presented to the Albany Diocese priests who attended this holy retreat........The personal connection is that I had a great uncle, Ladislaus E. Guzielek who was a priest in the NY region and attended this special Lenten Retreat in 1948 hosted by the Bishop of the Albany Catholic Church Edwin Gibbons (who eventually had a regional Catholic HS named for him). These \"retreats\" went on for years and were a hugely popular part of priesthood around the country. They however are very rare now. With the many closings of schools, churches and cutbacks on Catholic religion driven programs etc......there just are not that many priests around the state like there were in the height of these get-togethers from the 40\'s, 50\'s, 60\'s and even up to the 70\'s when the church had begun to cut back everything to save money. So, these little remembrances of times past are rarely found these days, let alone in such great, unused condition. The book itself was written and compiled by The Most Reverend Amleto Giovanni Cicognani, Archbishop of Laodicea - Apostolic Delegate to the United States. This book was a first revised edition by the Archbishop in 1944 under the auspices of \"Imprimatur: Thomas H. McLaughlin, Bishop of Paterson, NJ - October 7, 1944. A very unique book and history.
