These hardcover books measure 6 1/4\" X 9 1/2\".

Volume I has 428 pages, plus 16 B&W plates and 5 maps, with many more illustrations in the text.

Volume II has 444 pages, plus 25 B&W plates and 2 maps, with many more illustrations in the text. Two more maps appear at the end of the book; one bound in and folding out, the other (split on folds) in a pocket on the last endpaper.

Since these are ex-library books, they have some of the usual stamps, stickers, marks, etc. The books have blue boards, multi-colored inlay on the fronts and spines, and having beveled edges. Volume I has faded boards, with some surface wear. The cloth on the spine is loose from the surface, with the book being a bit slanted. The trenches are reinforced with cloth tape, and the corners are bumped and worn. For whatever reason, page(s) 113-114 has been taped between pages 156-157. The spine is firm, and the pages are tight. Volume II also has cloth tape reinforcing the trenches, although the trench is split after the copyright page, thus the hinge is weak. The corners are bumped and worn. The spine is firm, and the pages are tight. Overall, both books are Good for their age, and in being ex-library.
