I bought this box a few weeks ago because I wanted a small Art Deco silver box to hold my vintage tie bars and cuff links, but I need a slightly bigger box, so I am selling this with much regret.
This vintageTiffany & Co Sterling Silver Box with Sapphires Mounted in Solid 14k Goldwas made around 1930 and probably copied a Cartier original, as I\'ve seen similar boxes with the same design from that house.
The Cartier version I have seen (twice on from two different sellers) was sold as a luxurious lady\'s powder compact, although this box is deeper than most compacts. I believe that the mirror would have gone on the lid where the gold mount is, which would have covered the attachments. (You can see them in the photos.)
The condition is very clean. It shows some signs of use after 80 years, but there are no distracting dents or scratches, except the ones in the photos, and the ones I have highlighted in the condition report.Thereare some light scratches andabrasionson the inside of the box.
No monogram, no engravings of any kind.
This box snaps shutsecurely, and stays that way,with a thumb release though it is not spring-activated.
Dimensions
The Box meausres approx. 3 1/2\" X 3\" X 5/8\" and was weighed by the person on from whom I bought it at approx. 120 grams or 4.3 OZ of solid Sterling Silver.The Solid 14K Gold Mount measures approx. 1\"X 5/8\" and the person on from whom I bought it estimated it weighs approx. 6 grams of 14K Gold.
There are three 3mm X 3mm very fine quality medium blue sapphires channel-set in the gold mount. The person on from whom I bought it estimated the sapphires weigh about 3/4 of a carat.

Again, I hope you agree that this would make a beautiful ring box or other small jewelry box, but it is also a nice example of Art Deco decorative arts.
