Mellow yet rich and bright coloration with Brownies galore. Made for the United Grocery Store in Red Wing Minnesota.

Brownies are little imaginary sprites -- aka imps, gnomes, ormerry elves, who delight in playing harmless pranks and helpful deeds, workingand playing while weary households sleep and never are seen by mortal eyes.They were the invention of Palmer Cox (1840–1924), who created thesemischievous but kindhearted characters that starred in books,cartoons,and children\'s china and toys, becoming a childhood favorite forgenerations.

The central image of the tray is a charming illustration by Palmer Coxdepicting a huge pile of vanilla ice cream on a dish in a clearing in theforest. Myriad Brownies surround the main attraction which is attractingmany more brownies from the surrounding woods. A reserve at the top of the trayis left blank, meant to have been filled in with the name of the grocer or icecream parlor that used it in the shop. Four singing birds frame the reserve. Theraised rims also feature images of Palmer Cox Brownies in various woodsy scenes.
