Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration.Norwood was brought out by the Towle Mfg. Co. in 1884. The design is an ornate one, with architectural style elements. The butter knife is the device used to move butter from its dish onto people\'s plates. It is used to cut a service portion. The butter knife also works to serve soft cheeses. This is a flat butter knife, a newer design than the old twist butter knife which was designed to fit with a round butter dish for serving homemade butter. The flat butter knife was designed for serving cubed butter from the grocery store.The flat butter knife offered here measures about 7 1/4”. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of as much as 130 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The top of the blade has a French grey finish, and is expertly hand engraved brite cut with a floral motif. The pattern is crisp and clear.
