Called a \"daim nyias\" they have been used by the Hmong people of Southeast Asia and China for centuries to carry their babies on their backs while working in the fields, at home, or while travelling.

This piece was hand-crafted by a Hmong immigrant from Laos who is currently living in Wisconsin. Many hours were spent making this piece using the traditional patterns and methods of the Hmong people. Take a look at the photos to see the fine detailed cross-stitching. This is a dying art that is being replaced by printed fabrics to simulate the fine cross-stitching you find on this baby carrier.
