Green cloth over boards, frontispiece reproduction of the title page of the original edition, xvii, 357 pages, early woodcuts on the half title pages, several black-and-white illustrations including three full-page, and interesting and particularly informative Introduction by the editor. Corners and spine ends bumped, boards faded around perimeter, spine faded, text block edges soiled (particularly top edges), top Corners of text pages have a light crease, some scattered light foxing mostly on verso of illustrations, top blank margins of illustrations and facing pages. In a color illustrated dust jacket that is soiled, discolored, chipped at corners, spine ends, and edges; now looking somewhat presentable in a Brodart jacket. From the library of playwright Clifford Odets; his embossed name stamp on the front free end paper. Odets is considered the defining American playwright of the 1930s and revered as one of drama\'s greatest crusaders for social justice. From the Introduction: This is probably the first extensive American criminal biography.
