These are often termed \"scrap ornaments\" due to their origin. Victorian ladies and children kept scrap books filled with elegantly printed German die-cuts, called scraps. Printed in a twenty to twenty-four color plate process, one plate on another, to form an almost three-dimensional image. Eventually, thought to be too beautiful to be in book, they were used as tree ornaments. They were first hand-crafted at home employing tinsel, cellophane strips, cardboard, and tinsel wire which were all purchased at a general or retail store. Thus these wonderful ornaments found their way to the tree. These two are especially different as they used fabric leaves with the scraps.
