Civil War--Southern issue by the State of Louisiana. Due to thescarcity of paper, the notes were issued on the backs unissued oldbanknotes of the Commercial & Agricultural Bank of Texas at Columbia, Two Dollar, Two Peso notes. When thenotes were redeemed, they were cut in half and the first half sent to thetreasury. Upon confirmation of safe arrival, the second half wassent. The halves were never rejoined so exist as half notes. These two notes togather show about 2/3 of the original Bank of Texas note. Each2 3/4 by2 5/8 inches. All coinswere hoarded and the Confederacy, states, banks, insurance companies,merchants, and railroads allissued notes in order to keep going.What a story these notes could tell if they could talk.
