A fine early vintageand genuine collection of very well written letters from Frederick Doten, a Union soldier from Bridgeport, Connecticut. He served with the 14th Ct. Vols., once captured and kept at Libby Prison in Richmond.He rose through the ranks from private to Captain. Capt. Doten became a hero on the battlefield for bravery.At the battle of Fredericksburg, picked up their colors when the color bearer was killed, and continued to lead his men forward, was captured at Morton\'s Ford, he gained the respect of his fellow prisoners by his leadershipunder pressure.

This letter lot are very personal letters to his sweetheart at Chicopee, Massachusetts. The lettersexpress his many desires for her, his letters are addressed at first to Georgia, then he uses wife. At first I believe he covered up that he and Georgia eloped together, her father did not much like Frederick at first. Frederick was a very successful businessmanin banking.
