Native Gold in Quartz

Rex Mine, Manhattan, Manhattan District, Toquima Range, Nye Co., Nevada, USA

Ex. A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum (University of Michigan)

A unique example of native gold from Nevada!!! This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that hosts a prominent mass of buttery yellow native gold in addition to a small amount of unidentified associated species!!! Upon close inspection one can see a small amount of native gold intergrown with some of the darkly colored areas as well!!! This specimen retains a previous label and affixed catalogue label from the collection of Dr. WIlliam E. Heinrich Collection at the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum!!! The specimen is labelled specifically as coming from the Rex Mine in Manhattan, Nevada (I could not find any info on a Rex Mine in Manhattan)!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
