U.S. Army 14th Infantry Canteen.Captured by Northern Plains Indians.
Canteen strap has been decorated with beads by a Plains Tribe.Leather strap is extremely hard and brittle due to being circa 1865.Canteen cover is marked 14th and shows wear from use.Still has original stopper, which is rare.This would have to be the 14th Infantry as the 14th Cavalrywasn\'t formed until 1901.The 14th Infantry fought in the Civil War.After the Civil War, the 14th fought in the Indian Warson the Mid West Plains.After the battle of the Little Big Horn, the 14th Infantrychased the Siouxand Cheyenne into Canada.The 14th Infantry fought in the Indian Wars for 10 years.
This canteen is the real deal.An amazing piece of history.
