abramsantiques Store US Army Air Forces B-17 bombers of WW2 carried flare pistols as part of their standard equipment. Flares were used to signal \"wounded aboard\" if a shot up plane was coming in \"on a wing and a prayer\", and to mark the crew\'s position to rescuers if a plane was downed. Signal flares were stored in sturdy canvas pouches affixed via lift-a-dots at various points in the aircraft; if a plane was forced down, the pouch was simply grabbed by the handle and \"yanked off the wall\". This US Army AAF WW2 B-17 BOMBER A-5 SIGNAL FLARE POUCH is in very good condition, with some dark soiling at front, a spot of dark soiling at the middle back, some darkening to the ends of the back pull handle, a bit of whitish soiling at the left back pull handle, the male \"lift-the-dot\" at the lower right back able to be twisted, some small spots of whitish soiling at bottom, some patina to the brass zipper track and pull, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pouch is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the tough canvas construction. It boasts intact darkened brass male \"lift-the-dots\" at each side, and sports a fully functional \"CONMAR\" brass zipper with a brown leather pull. It\'s stamped \"TYPE A-5\" and dated 1942 in the original \"42G11966\" contract marking at front, features a fully intact web pull handle at back, and is complete with all of the original, fully intact canvas interior dividers.
