In four short years, the US Army Air Forces grew from a small air service to a mighty armada that swept the Luftwaffe from the skies, and was capable of projecting force on a global scale. AAF pilots late in WW2 were issued the classic L-1 OD wool flight suit for wear in warm weather. This US Army AAF WW2 PILOT L-1 OD WOOL FLIGHT SUIT is in very good condition, with a very small spot of fraying at the top right shoulder, some very small spots of yellowish paint staining at the middle front ankles,the \"ARMY AIR FORCES\" portion of the left shoulder stencil having faded away,some light loose weaving to the end of the word \"GABARDINE\" on the nomenclature label at the inside neck, a spot of brownish soiling at the inner right cuff, some light fraying to the middle back collar and neck, and with some light overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the suit is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough OD wool gabardine construction. Most interestingly, it\'s a Size Medium Short, boasts a fully functional \"TALON\" darkened brass front zipper with a brown leather pull, and carries the classic \"SUIT, FLYING, LIGHT GABARDINE / Type L-1 / BLUE BELL, INC.\" silver and black nomenclature label at the inside neck. It bears the iconic full color AAF \"winged star\" stencil at the left shoulder, features a multitude of \"TALON\" zippered pockets, a 4 slot pen pocket at the upper left sleeve, button cuffs and waist adjusters, hidden button closure side entry hip pockets, a brown leather covered map/checklist clip at the front left thigh, and zippered ankles, and sports all of the original flat rimmed OD plastic buttons throughout.
