They used a specially designed nickel oiler housed in the butt stock to keep the barrel well lubricated. This US Army USMC Marine WW1 WW2 M-1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE NICKEL OILER is in good condition, with a small, shallow spot dent at middle, some scattered nicking, scratching, and spot darkening throughout, some patina to the thong, missing the bore brush, and with some scattered age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the oiler is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough nickel construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the original brown leather faced end cap, carries the initials \"JPC\" punched into the opposite end cap, and is complete with the original brass pull thong inside.
