US paratroopers landed on Sicily in 1943, dropped into Normandy on D-Day in 1944, and jumped \"over the Rhine\" in Operation Varsity in early 1945.Those \"devils in baggy pants\" were expected to rally from their drop zones to rendezvous points, and were issued well made wrist compasses to do so.This US Army WW2 PARATROOPER AIRBORNE SUPERIOR MAGNETO WRIST COMPASS is in very good condition, with a field expedient WW2 brown boot lace wrist strap, some scattered scratching to the face, the name \"Neimeyer\" scratched into the back, and with some scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the compass is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough brown plastic construction. Most interestingly, it remains fully functional, with the direction needle moving smoothly and easily. It\'s dated \"12-44\" (December 1944) at one side edge, carries \"CORPS OF ENGINEERS / U.S. ARMY\" and\"MANUFACTURED BY / SUPERIOR MAGNETO CORP.\"marked at the middle back, and is a fine example of a rare, originalUS Army WW2 PARATROOPER AIRBORNE SUPERIOR MAGNETO WRIST COMPASS.
