USA Scott #65 stamp tied by March 7, 1864 New Orleans, Louisiana duplex grid cancel on Civil War cover sent to Miss Harriet E. Post of West Butler, Wayne County, New York. Due 6 marking at top. In 1861 the United States demonetized in use postage stamps for any Confederate mailings. So this was an illegal usage on a Confederate cover mailed to a Union State and incurred double indemnity. Scarce and very desirable item!Sent 1864, opened cleanly at right with some general wear & toning. Fine condition.
