Here is a US WWII combat helmet with an original first pattern USMC helmet cover. The helmet is a fixed bale type (welded fixed chinstrap loop) and the liner is Firestone marked. The headband is dated 1945 and has two names inked in the leather (see photo). As can be seen, all of the liner parts are khaki. The non-adjustable neckband also has some lot number markings, but no date that I can see. I think it\'s marked MEDIUM, but this marking is half off he strap. The first pattern liner has no foilage slits or button slits on the flaps. As shown in the photos, there is a small and faint EGA on the brown side of the cover along with a number (107) inked onto one of the fingers. This is not the typical large and bold EGA found on post-war marked covers. The green side of the cover has a very faint trace of a marking, (or so I think and perhaps a very faint EGA similar to the one on the brown side??), but I cannot tell for sure and you really have to look hard to see anything at all. (See the photos from the front). There are no other markings on either side of the cover that can see. The slits for the chin straps are cut crudely as if done by a K-Bar. The cover has a nice used and worn look to it. This is exactly the way I got this helmet/cover over 20 years ago and I have not done any parts swapping at all on it. 3-day inspection is fine with me. $375 reserve.
