The US Marine Corps has always prided itself on being \"first to fight\", and Marine units attached to the Army\'s 2nd Infantry Division were rushed to France to help blunt the great German Spring Offensive of 1918. They stopped the Germans cold at Belleau Wood, and then began to turn the tide at Chateau-Thierry. The \"Devil Dogs\" were issued the distinctive USMC P-1912 canteen cover, which featured several rows of quilted stitching at front and back. This USMC Marine US WW1 P-1912 KHAKI CANTEEN COVER is in excellent condition, with some light scattered spot soiling at front, a small dark \"L\" shaped mark at the right bottom, some whitish fading at back, some brownish soiling at the upper back, some scattered dark soiling around the back, a small missing stitch at the lower right back, and with some light overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the cover is in excellent shape, with no other damage to the tough khaki canvas construction. Most interestingly, it features several rows of quilted stitching at front and back,sports the classic high sewn USMC \"angled\" darkened brass wire hanger at the upper back, and boasts fully functional darkened brass \"lift-the-dot\" front closures. It\'s stamped with what appears to be the name \"LL LAIRD\" at the interior left flap, and is a fine example of a very rare, originalUSMC Marine US WW1 P-1912 KHAKI CANTEEN COVER.
