To defeat Japan, US power in the Pacific grew to include thousands of warships and 6 full divisions of Marines. After turning the tide at Guadalcanal, the Leathernecks slugged it out with the Japanese island by island on the long, hard road to Tokyo. US Marines began to be issued their own HBT \"8 point\" fatigue caps in November 1944, and they quickly became symbolic of the hard fighting \"Gyrene\" late in the Pacific War. This USMC Marine US WW2 8 POINT HBT COMBAT FATIGUE CAP is in excellent condition, with some light \"browning\" around the hatband, some dark soiling to the front sweatband, a spot of whitish soiling at the interior front crown, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the cap is in excellent shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the crisp sage HBT 100% cotton construction. Most interestingly, it bears the classic Eagle, Globe, and Anchor insignia of the Corps boldly stenciled at front, sports two sage finished metal ventilation grommets at each side of the crown, and carries what appears to be the name \"ME MAYES\" thrice stamped at the underside of the front bill.
