ULTRA RARE ANTIQUE 1800\'s PRIMITIVE HAND CARVED ANGEL SKIN CORAL PIG ~ PRETTY PINK PATTERNS

Offered here is a very rare-to-find OLD guaranteed to be 19th century hand carved pig from Angel Skin Coral suffused with Pink. Carved in a primitive yet nicely detailed style. Pretty oval coral rings radiate from the top of his back, & beautiful suffused pink shows through in natural ribbed contours on the side. Measures approx. 2.5\" long X 1\" (inch) wide. Weighs approx 58.05 grams. Condition is excellent for the age ~ no flaws worth mentioning. (see pics) Very scarce to find one of this larger size ~ generally they are much smaller like the size of a charm for a charm bracelet, & definitely NOT this old. This was probably carved by a Native Indian Islander or a Navy / Merchant Sailor. It looks much better than in the photos! Patterns & colors hard to do justice with the camera & scanner.

The colourful, sensitive world of corals:

Corals do not necessarily have to be red, even if red isthought of as their typical colour. Corals grow in Nature in a wide range ofcolours from red to white and from blue and brown to black. The most popularare the red hues such as pale pink or salmon, all the way out to a deep darkred. Black corals and gold corals are very much in fashion, whilst the blueones are extremely rare. The white of the angel skin coral, suffused with pink,is regarded as particularly precious. Other well known colours are the rich redJapanese Moro coral, the pale pink \'Boke\' and the red \'Sardegna\'.
