A very rare Super -condition pure wool Unika-Vaev Finlandia rya designed by Verner Panton circa 1961
This extremely rare vintage Finlandia rya was designed around 1961 byVerner PantonforUnika-Vaev A/Sof Copenhagen, Denmark. The rug has a very dense pure wool shag pile in a spectrum of blues, from light sky blue through to a rich and vibrant purple, radiating in concentric circles on a grid of black squares. It is in brand new, unused condition and retains its original Unika-Vaev label on the reverse side. The rug was produced in three sizes, of which this is the smallest, measuring 90 x 170cm (approximately 35.5 x 67 inches). The other sizes were 140 x 228cm and 228 x 228cm.
The four smaller pictures below are (clockwise from top left) (i) the rug’s Unika-Vaev label, (ii) a 1965 Unika-Vaev advert showing the rug, (iii) the rug (in a different size and colour) and its catalogue entry from the 1999 Phillips Design Trilogy cited below, and (iv) a 1968 edition of a Danish homestyle magazine showing the largest version of the rug.
