Item #18101 – SS United States 35” Battery Operated Toy by Venturaof Italy Circa 1950s

This has to be the most magnificent and elaborate toyrepresentation made of the United States Lines record-breaking Flagship, the SSUnited States. This huge (34.75”/88.2 cm) battery-operated replica of the linerwas manufactured by Ventura of Italy. You might surmise that fact not due tothe label on the ship\'s stern, but to the colorful umbrellas, chairs andswimming pools added to the vessel\'s upper decks - something Italian liners ofthe era were famous for, but which the Big U definitely lacked! Her batteriespowered not only her twin propellers but five running lights as well. Very goodcondition overall. She has suffered a bump and crack at her stern on thestarboard side (mirroring the \"bump\" visible on the port stern of theship today!) Her decoration looks to be a combination of hand-painted andstenciled details. Some paint chipping from her kingposts and booms as well asfrom her radar mast. She is basically molded Styrene, but fittings such aslifeboats, rudder, king posts and booms, umbrellas and chairs are tin. It istruly amazing that this toy - obviously played-with - has survived in such goodcondition. That is quite appropriate - it is amazing the vessel herself isstill with us as well! 34.75” in length overall and 6.5” beam (widest point,midship). When measured from her keel she is 7.75” in height to the top of herforward funnel and 9.25” in height to the tip of her radar mast. She weighs5.14 lbs. unpackaged. Quite clean inside with the original paper remaining inher battery compartment. I have not tested the motor.

Note that she has what appears to be a home-made cradle. I will behappy to send it along with the model, if desired.
