UNTERWEISSBACH LACE FIGURINE GERMAN PORCELAIN YOUNG LOVERS WITH BIRDCAGE:
$162.42

This Dresden style lace group was made by the excellent porcelain manufacturer Unterweissbach in Thuringia, Germany. This old established company has passed through several changes of name and ownership, producing very high quality porcelain throughout. Unterweissbach was formerly Mann & Porzelius AG and, before that was the Aeltester Volkstedter Porzellenfabrik founded in 1882. That was taken over in 1908 by Max Adolf Pfeiffer and became ‘Scwarzenburger Werkstatten fur Porzellankunst’. The factory won well deserved European gold medals in 1910 and 1913. When Pfeiffer departed in 1918 to be director of KPM Meissen, Heinz Schaubach leased the premises, then took over the business in 1940. It now belongs to Christian Seltmann in Weiden. The high standard of its products remains unaltered. This group comprises a pair of young lovers who are sitting on a bank in the countryside against a low bocage. The young couple lean against one another, She wears a lovely fine lace ruffled white dress and there are tiny beautifully made flowers scattered on the dress, among the ruffles. There are flowers in the grass and a bird cage with an open door rests near their feet. Beside the cage is a brightly coloured bird. This group is mounted upon a very detailed naturalistic plinth, fully marked underneath, in blue underglaze, with the Unterweissbach logo. The base also features the underglaze incised number “8287 B” and the number ‘14’.Condition. This beautiful piece is in excellent condition, with no loss to the lace anywhere. There are likewise no losses to the glazes or the base I have provided plenty of photographs which should be seen as part of the description. All fingers and toes are present and no one has lost her head! .This group (plinth) measures almost 16.5cms (6 ½”) long by 10cms (4”) wide and measures nearly 18cms (7”) from the base of the plinth to the top of the heads of the figures. It weighs 838gms (nearly 2 lbs) before packing. Please be aware that in that it is potentially fragile this will require very tough packaging and plenty of it. I have sent these figures all over the world and have never lost one yet! I pack most carefully in tough new packaging for which I make no charge.PostageI have quoted alternative postal options and would be glad if the successful buyer would contact me before paying as we need to establish the right postal cost for you, depending on your location, the appropriate insurance and thus the total cost. However, I have learned that with fragile items such as this, it is safer and more prudent to pack it in a comparatively large box. I always, as a matter of policy, use a ‘signed for’ postal option and insure for the full value. I aim to keep the postage as low as possible commensurate with the demands of safety and security and I never attempt to make extra profit by overcharging for postage. I always return any postage inadvertently overcharged, as will be clear from my response.PaymentI am happy to accept Paypal and will accept personal cheques, but only in sterling. I am afraid that the clearance of foreign currency cheques in the UK is expensive and time-consuming so I have reluctantly had to exclude their use. So, sorry! It’s sterling cheques only.
