So many things to say about this clock. Extremely unique and we have tried for weeks to identify it unsuccessfully so one lucky person who will likely know better than we do will have a beautiful and very different old clock. It is a possibility that this was handmade by an individual which would account for the how unique it is.We are selling as is and for a project so please read completely and look at photos. This clock IS a cuckoo clock. There is no key and below is a list of everything we can see:- The clock can either be hung or placed on a mantle and IT WAS MADE TO DO EITHER! The first photo shows it hanging with the base opened to show a small glass window with painted flowers and a man and woman. The second photo shows this part folded up and allowing the click to sit easily and function as a mantle clock
- Measure appx. 8 3/4\" wide and 16 1/4\" in height while sitting. Measures appx. 22\" in height when base is opened and hung on wall.
- When opened and hung the base locks in place with two little hooks as shown in photos.
- The face is damaged and a large crack below the VII in the wood (you can see this in photos)
- Appears it had work done on the bellows (white things in the back at the top) as they appear to not be original (but we are not sure)
- Swing the pendulum and movements tick and move (but hands do not)
- The cuckoo DOES sound if you manual swing the pendulum and move the hands to the hour or half hour. Cuckoo pops out and sounds the hour (7 Cuckoo for 7 o\'clock, 8 for 8 etc) and cuckoos once for the half hour. Cuckoo does extend partially out but looks like it should extend more. Door covering cuckoo needs reattached to cuckoo bird so it opens and closes with it.
- There are two birds painted at the top with flowers on the cuckoo door which closes but hangs a little open
- Glass in front of the face is in good shape and the door opens and closes just fine and latches shut
- There are small doors on each side which open and close as they should and latch when the knob is turned. These doors allow one to look at the inside movement.
- There is no back cover to the clock
- The clock has its share of marks and scrapes and will need a thorough cleaningThis is a wonderful project clock. While we have tried to list what we can there will likely be a lot more you will find when examined. We do our best to be up front and honest in all descriptions but with some we may miss something. We have never seen one that was made to either hang on a wall or sit on a shelf with a folding bottom that allows it to do so.
