Unusual Vintage Tindeco Candy Tin with Washington’s Inauguration

This beautiful tin box is a special find for those who collect Tindeco tins. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one before. The tin is a large-ish candy tin from Montague & Co. of Philadelphia. The lid shows a scene from George Washington’s inauguration in 1793, and there is some historical information printed on the inside of the lid. The base is rather ornate and somewhat feminine in contrast, done up in pink, blue, and an abundance of swirls and scrolls in metallic gold. The lid is reinforced, and lifts off, rather than being hinged. Likely dates to the 1920s.

CONDITION:

The vintage wear and patina includes some small areas of wear, some small scratches and scuffs, some handling marks and normal vintage soiling, some minor dents and dings, etc.

Additional condition issues of note:

· A cluster of scratches on lid, a larger scratch at lower edge.

· A long side of base has some longer scratches.

· A few areas on base show dark wear.

· Some scuffs and a number of stains inside – a little more than average.

· Bit of a potpourri smell to interior.

· Some dings and scuffs on bottom.

· Opens/closes fine.

Approximate size of tin is about 9” by 5.5” by about 3.75” tall.

The tin is empty.
