Description Very unusual vintage pottery jar with a coordinating screw on lid in a lovely matte lavender.  The piece measures 5\" tall,  2 1/4\" across the base,  2 1/2\" across the top, and a 10\" circumference at its largest point-the bottle of Coke is for a sizing reference.  It is quite a hefty piece as well weighing almost one and one half pounds. The clay on the inside of the canister is threaded to match the clay on the bottom of the cap and the two pieces screw together tightly.  I am not sure if the original intent was as a small cremation urn, a spice or Tobacco jar but whatever is was for, the contents would have been secure.  It is in excellent vintage condition with no damage other than a small nick on the edge of the lid that seems to be covered with the glaze so that may have actually occurred during its manufacture.  There are also some rust stains to the lid as noted in the photos.  An odd piece of vintage pottery in a really lovely color!
