VERY FINE TALL OLD NORTHWEST COAST LIDDED MAKAH NUU-CHAH-NULTH BASKET c1880:

A very fine large early tall Northwest Coast Nuu-chah-nulth Makah lidded basket dating from the late 1800\'s The basket is very finely woven ( approx 30 stitches per inch) from split cedar bark and natural dyed bear grasses to produce the complex intricate designs that encircle the periphery and lid. The natural dyes have faded over time and the original pattern is now only visible from the interior . The basket is a very early example and demonstrates some the finest weaving ever on a Northwest Coast basketry and thus its collect-ability. Please note the inner cedar bark rim edge has separated in a few places, this is not noticeable when the lid is on . This museum quality basket makes an excellent display item and a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
