This is one of those odd old pieces that is a bit of a mystery as to its original intended purpose. I was drawn to it for its wonderful old, worn white painted interior and red painted sides as well as its form which struck me as somewhat similar in shape to a child\'s stepback cupboard, though you will notice that it would be a three-tier stepback rather than the usual two-tier stepback. Anyway, I\'m quite sure it was not built for a child\'s use, but I have no idea what it once held. I\'ve filled it with smalls from around my home and love how primitive it looks. It could be hung or sit flat on a table or counter. There are no drawers or anything of that nature and its back is rather odd............no backing. It is 24\" high, 16 1/2\" wide and 7 1/4\" deep at the bottom. It appears to be made of 1/2\" thick pine throughout with the exception of the left side, (left as you are looking at it head on), which is a heavy duty 3/16\" thick masonite type of material and is not pine. Some of the outside bottom has a newer addition of 1/4\" thick plywood and it looks to me like this was added so that the piece would sit flatly on a surface but it is not visible when sitting ona flat surface.A very odd piece..........wonderfully primitive and is probably an early to mid-20th Century piece. I do love the paint and feel that it is original. If I had to rate the paint on the \"good, better, best\" scale, I would rate it as \"best\" because of the wear and crazing. There is years of accumulated grime. I have given it nothing more than a surface dusting. A primitive that you can have fun with. .
