DescriptionA GREAT EXAMPLE OF EARLY WROUGHT IRON LIGHTING. ONE OF THE NICEST EXAMPLES WE HAS SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME. THIS GREAT PIECE OF LIGHTING HAS BEEN IN AN OLD NEW HAMPSHIRE COLLECTION FOR MANY YEARS.
AN EXTREMELY RARE 18TH CENTURY WROUGHT IRON TRIPOD BASE FLOOR STANDING SPRING ADJUSTABLE DOUBLE CANDLE HOLDER. Probably Continental, Circa 1740-1760, IN GREAT SURFACE AND PERFECT CONDITION.
FLOOR STANDING ADJUSTABLE CANDLE HOLDERS ARE EXTREMELY RARE. THIS ONE HAS NICE OLD SURFACE AND THE BEST FORM.
THE ORIGINAL HAND DRAWN AND HAMMERED SHAFT HAS A GREAT TRIPOD FORM BASE WITH SWEEPING LEGS ENDING IN STRONG FLATTENED PENNY FEET. THE DOUBLE SPRING ADJUSTABLE ELEMENT HAS AN ATTACHED FULLY INTACT SCROLLED AND CUT DESIGNED DOUBLE CANDLE HOLDER. THE DRIP PANS ARE SCROLL DECORATED, A VERY RARE FEATURE. THE CANDLE CUPS ARE ROLLED AND SEAMED.
THE SHAFT IS ONE OF THE BEST WE HAVE SEEN. IT HAS A LOWER TURNING AND THE BEST FACETED CENTER DESIGN. THERE ARE ALSO THREE GREAT CURLED ELEMENTS AT THE BASE.
THE ADJUSTABLE CANDLE-ARM HAS LIMITED MOVEMENT BECAUSE THE SHAFT SQUARES OFF AT ABOUT THE 48\" HEIGHT. WE HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE, BUT USUALLY WITH AN ADDED KNOB OR TURNED ELEMENT. IT ALLOWS YOU TO EASILY SWIVEL OR TURN THE CANDLE-ARM AS NEEDED WITHOUT LOSING HEIGHT.
The iron surface is great, untouched, uncleaned old quality and patina with tremendous amounts of old 19th century black surface remaining. Great hand forged tool marks throughout.
AN EXTREMELY RARE FORM OF EARLY 18TH CENTURY IRON LIGHTING.

A VERY RARE FORM IN WONDERFUL CONDITION AND GREAT OLD COLOR AND SURFACE. NO REPAIRS OR RESTORATIONS JUST THE USUAL WEAR YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM OVER 250 YEARS OF USE.
ADJUSTMENT SPRINGS ARE STILL TIGHT AND both candle cups and pans are as well.
