This lot features an envelope that was flown on the first flight by Eastern from Boston to San Juan. The envelope was postmarked in Boston on February 4, 1967, now at half-a-century ago. The envelope was flown on the inaugural Eastern flight to San Juan, and it was backstamped upon arrival at San Juan. The postmark is light, but legible, and the backstamp is fully legible. Cachets were not authorized for the new Eastern service, and, consequently, properly flown covers are RARE. The envelope is listed in the American Air Mail Catalogue as F29-40. The envelope is in very good condition. The cover from Boston is RARE, with ONLY 30 covers flown to San Juan from the Boston Post Office. That one cover has an AAMC value of USD$125!! (2004 Catalogue value!). Properly flown covers are authenticated by having the correct postmark (Boston Feb 4) and backstamp (San Juan Feb 4).
