This is an enchanting and very rare signed STERLING CRAFT Coro dimensional \'Mexican Flowergirl\' gold plated brooch. Her long flowing skirt is enameled in red, blue, and green with stripes of gold left showing. Her head scarf is enameled in blue and she holds a golden basket of enameled flowers with rhinestone centers. She measures 3 1/4\" tall, 2 1/4 wide, and has a 3/4\" profile. This brooch is a book piece and can be found in Brunialti\'s American Costume Jewelry, Vol.1, p.127. The patent 133,737 was issued on September 8, 1942.

She is in very good, near flawless condition. There is some wear to the enamel in high spots - not noticed with the brooch in hand. I was unable to find another like her online with the exception of the reference below. What a collector\'s dream she is! Enjoy!

REFERENCE: in a sturdy gift box with insurance for US buyers and packaged securely to insure safe arrival. A copy of the patent will be enclosed.

CORO, INC., was one of the largest and most prolific costume jewelry manufacturing and wholesale companies in the United States and the world.

Coro was begun in 1901 by Emanuel Cohn and Carl Rosenberger who opened a small accessories store on Broadway in New York City. Not until 1943, did the company name Coro, a contraction of the first two letters of each partner\'s last name, change to Coro, Inc.

Cohn and Rosenberger were not designers of jewelry; they found professional jewelry designers for this work.

Adolph Katz, a name well known to Coro collectors, was not a jewelry designer either (contrary to popular belief). He signed his name on the patent applications. From 1924 on, he was the man in charge of selecting the designs from a large pool of designers that Coro would manufacture, commission to be manufactured, and sell.

Adolph Katz, as the design director for Coro, was probably the single largest influence in creating the look for which Coro became known and popular with the jewelry buying public.
