On December 30,1939 Otto Turinsky filed serial number 311,852 with the United States Patent Office for his new & improved smoking pipe. On May 20, 1941 his patent number 2,242,805 was issued. The drawing from the patent office is included in my pictures along with an advertisement from 1946 for the KEN pipes that were manufactured in Chicago Illinois by Prim Associates of America. How long this company was in business & when it closed I do not know. Why these are stamped Super Ken & not just Ken I don\'t know. Most of the Ken pipes I have seen are smooth, maybe Super was added for the rustic finish, this is just a guess and again we can find any info about it.
The pipes I am selling which are stamped Super Ken, PAT. 2242805 are believed to be left over bowls from when the company closed & are probably from the 1940\'s. Once again like with many of my Mitchell Thomas/MT pipes I called William Feuerbach the maker of Kaywoodie to take these vintage rustic bowls and finish them into complete pipes. Obviously these pipes DO NOT have the patented 6 feature smoking system that Otto Turinsky used for the original KEN pipes as that would be impossible. ALL the Super Ken pipes are New & Unsmoked. They have been cleaned, buffed and fitted with black vulcanite bit. No filter is used.
This particular pipe is a smooth top flat bottom sitting pot & has a weight of 1.1oz , length is about 5 1/2\", bowl height is about 1 5/8\", bowl top diameter is about 1 5/16\" & the smoking chamber is about 7/8\".
