Previously the men had discovered clay deposits in the local area and originally manufactured sewer pipes for the growing housing market on the West Coast. By the early 1930\'s Gladding McBean because producing dinnerware. Frederick Grant, past president of the Weller Pottery in Zanesville, was brought in to manage the new factory production of dinnerware under the name of Franciscan Pottery. The ivory pattern is a popular Franciscan motif as it was used during the filming of the \"I Love Lucy\" television show.DESCRIPTIONThis listing is for a vintage circa 1949 Franciscan California art pottery Ivy pattern large 18 inch oval turkey serving platter. The platter carries the ivory motif around the circumference of the edge with the distinctive leafy vine in various shades of green. The rim has been hand painted in green glazing. The bottom of the platter carries the Franciscan mark used from 1949 through 1953.CONDITIONThis vintage Franciscan ivy platter is in wonderful condition. The pottery is free of any signs of damage such as chips, cracks, flea bites, usage marks, and repairs. The surface is free of any signs of crazing in the outer clear glaze layer. It truly appears as if this platter was stored for many years without being used. This vintage platter has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.~SHIPPING COSTS~ I will be shipping this item to you via Fed Ex ground insured shipping.
