Original,unaltered, unrestored, all-tinplate toy made in Japan by TPS (Tokyo PlaythingShokai) in the mid 1950s. The clockworkmechanism is tight, sound and in working condition - a suitable surface is requiredfor operation. The toy is approximately290 mm (11½ inches) long when fully extended and 90 mm (3½ inches) at its tallestpoint. The brightly decorated tinplate elephanthas two tracked rubber wheels and a fixed metal key. Eachof the three tinplate trailing figures are also brightly coloured and able toswivel on pivot connections, and each is mounted on a rubber wheel whichrotates the acrobats - one inside a tinplate ring and two which spin on vividlystriped tinplate spheres. All tinplateand metal parts are in excellent condition, being sound and strong. All paintwork is bright and glossy,displaying only the most insignificant light scratching and a few absolutely tinyareas of minimal superficial surface rusting. This is entirely commensuratewith the age of the piece (close to 60 years) and is in fact to be considered normaldesirable patina. The five rubber wheelsare very lightly scuffed in places but are strong, complete and fully intact. This splendid original vintage toy will bemost carefully packed and protected to ensure its safe arrival.
