VINTAGE 1960 RARE \"PRE-P\" CORNING WARE BLACKTREFOIL 2.5 QT

Corning\'s elegant Black Trefoil pattern was originally releasedin 1960. With much lower production numbers, its intention was to appeal to the\"upper class\" that might look down upon the more common and humbleBlue Cornflower pattern. As such, pieces with this pattern (particularly the\"Pre-P\" pieces) are rare and highly collectible. P-series modelnumbers weren\'t introduced until the Fall of 1961 and were marked with a\"P\" designation followed by the Item number (capacity in quarts). Theblue-printed backstamps without a \"P\" item number were only used in1960-1961.

This beautiful Saucepan/Casserole Dish is marked \"CorningWare, 2 1/2 Qt\" - dating it to between its introduction in 1960 to thesummer of 1961, making this piece 54-55 YEARS OLD!This model would later bear the P-2½-B stamp. This\"Pre-P\" piece consistently sells for $40-45 (plus shipping) WHEN ITCAN BE FOUND.Made of Pyroceram.No cracks, no chips, no repairs. Excellent used condition.

DON’T use ANY Corning Ware pieces on the stovetop unless you’re absolutely SURE they’re made of pyroceram and/or their bottoms say they can be used that way!

Obviously there was a 10+ year period during which World Kitchen’s Corning Ware was NOT made of pyroceram, and pieces from that era are NOT safe to use on the stovetop. I’ve read more than one account of cracking, breaking, and even exploding! On the other hand, all Corning Wear cooking and baking pieces of whatever age are safe in the microwave and in the oven at temperatures of 350 degrees or less.
