Description: This special assembly was finished during the early days while Arcosanti and Cosanti were being built in Arizona, but more than likely assembled by Paolo himself at Cosanti here in the Town of Paradise Valley in Scottsdale, AZ. The link and link chains are made of solid aluminum, the two wind bells are made of a bronze/brass combination, and the wind fins are made of thick, solid copper (thick copper is no longer used for the wind fins today). The wind bells (thus the special assembly too) are easily dated to late 1960s/early 1970s do to their unique art style of metal scoring the bell surface after the bells were cast. This practice of metal scoring stopped in the mid 1970s. Also, the protruding metal elements like the rounded dots and metal rectangles on both bells stopped in the mid 1970s too.***Unlike more stationary bronze wind bells and heavy special assemblies, this special assembly has a ton of character. When it gets really windy, this special assembly moves side-to-side and constantly spins 360 degrees. It\'s really beautiful to watch and listen to. You will feel like you are visiting Cosanti on a breezy day here in the desert. ***Dimensions:· Weight = estimated 30 lbs+· Each bell = 6 inches tall * 5 inches wide· Link = 20 inches wide· Link with wind fins = 52 inches tall· Original metal chain + Link + wind fins = 72 inches tall (6 ft tall)Authentication: Since I live in Scottsdale, AZ (My home is 1 mile away from Cosanti in Scottsdale, AZ and I have no affiliation with Cosanti), I was fortunate to get the Special Assembly authenticated by the staff at Cosanti. They were gracious enough to me to explain that the special assembly was made of aluminum, brass, bronze, and copper. More importantly though, they confirmed Paolo Soleri himself created the special assembly\'s solid aluminum link and signed the piece on the one-of-a-kind unique aluminum link piece in a very antiquated fashion which helps date the piece. His signature nowadays is very easy to read and I attached photos of two different Special Assembly’s signatures of the old and new signature types currently on display at Cosanti. The photos were only attached for reference to show the differences between the old and new signature types and no other bells are in this sale. Not to mention the style of the link Paolo custom made looks very much like his architecture style and not the special assemblies made in the 1980s and beyond. As of today, Cosanti wasn’t sure if Paolo forged the bronze wind bells or not. Paolo usually only crafted the aluminum Special Assembly links.Condition: A near perfect, weathered beauty! Every single piece of this special assembly has no real condition issues except for the small missing metal wire that connect the fins with the links. However, it may appear four of the nine special assembly chain link-- final ending links went missing overtime. Fortunately, no special assembly chain link-- final ending links are missing. I talked to the Cosanti staff and they mentioned old special assemblies have the chains attached to the Special Assemblies in two different ways: 1.) one way is to attach the flat part of a special assembly chain link -- final ending link to the main aluminum base link with a metal hook so the final end of the chain link looks like it\'s missing a piece or 2.) the main aluminum base link will have a little connection built in so the flat part of a special assembly chain link-- final ending link will be the last hanging part of the chain. I have actually seen this for myself at Cosanti and included a picture of this occurrence for reference (no other bells are in this sale). This difference was purely an artist choice. Also keep in mind: a Soleri bell and its link need to be beaten by Earth’s elements to age to perfection. Arizona is the ideal place for the bells and their links to be beaten down by the Sun. The Sun gives the bells and their links beautiful aged color. These bells not only have beautiful color, but this link has a unique weathering past. This Special Assembly must have been close to a swimming pool or similar sized body of water over the years because the stunning aluminum link appears to have gained a beautiful texture from the extra reflective light and extra humidity. My price for my vintage one-of-a-kind late 1960s SIGNED Paolo Soleri Special Assembly with two bronze wind bells is a great investment for any museum or personal collection due to its rarity, craftsmanship, and the fact Paolo worked directly on the vintage piece. Keep in mind; Cosanti does not give Insurance, sale, or current Market Price appraisals for vintage bells. The price is based on the current market price appraisals on similiar Special Assemblies of the same age, size, and quality. Thanks for looking!***INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: For shipping regulations: http://pe.usps.com/text/imm/ab_toc.htm .
