VINTAGE ART DECO SILVERPLATE BENEDICT ADAM PERIOD 3 ¼” SUGAR CREAMER SET #1832

The Benedict Mfg. Co. started out in 1894 at Syracuse, New York. It was incorporated in 1902 and reorganized in 1906 as T.N. Benedict Mfg. Co.

Their principal business was the manufacture of silverplated hollowware and later added a line of hollowware plated on nickel silver base.

In addition to the firm’s headquarters in East Syracuse the company also established offices in New York and Chicago by 1897. In 1910 the firm set up a branch factory in Canada. Benedict was famous for adopting and converting antique patterns like in this case copying the very elegant designs by Robert Adams in the Benedict Period Plate.

Benedict continued producing its lines until 1942 when much of their plant facilities was converted to war work.

Benedict went out of business in 1953.

Description

Up for sale is this beautiful Vintage Art Deco Silverplate Sugar and Creamer Set by Benedict, N.Y.C. made around 1920.

The hexagonal form of the vessels together with the geometrically designed handles are key attributes of the Art Deco Period and make identification really easy. A further important indicator are the two small decorative bands at the top and bottom typical again for Art Deco.

Both vessels measure approx. 3” in height and about 3 1/4” in diameter at the bottom. The silverplating is 95% intact and very shiny with some silverloss at the spout and handles. There are no dings or scratches. Considering its age and design both pieces would be worthwhile to have them resilvered if you desire to do that.

The bottom is stamped
“ADAM PERIOD”
“BENEDICT”
Benedict Logo
“1832”

I did not clean them as I saw no need to do so but I am recommending giving them a shining for optical and hygienic reasons before use.

This set is really pretty and because of its Art Deco design will go well with any table- or place settings. They also will make a great gift to anybody who loves antique silver!
