This was purchased in Maui, Hawaii in the Lahaina Art Gallery District. The historic fishing town is also one of the world\'s largest marketsof scrimshaw for centuries.

Thisvery ornate belt buckleis silver-tone metal. Hefty weight Ithas anembossed design and blackenamel brings out the incredible details. The roundscrimshawdisc sets into a raisedbead-ball rim. This rim is attached on the back with screws.The scrimshaw carving on the disc is a nautical scene. Intricate carvingdetailing to the Tall ships, fishing vessels with fishermen and a harpoon, sailboats and awhale tail comingout from the water. Sky, cloudsand birds are very detailed in the background. This is not an applied scene, it is actually carved into thedisc - easy to see this.It is signed by the artist Jackson. The scrimshaw artist Marv Jackson began his career in Maui, Hawaii. He is aself taught artist perfecting the art of scrimshaw and evolved to painting on canvasand his art is seen worldwide. He now paints huge murals in various cities.
