Description in the back:Ruben Cloisonne Corporationhand madeCloisonne WareCloisonne originated in Central Asia, but was refined and improved upon in China.This intricate technique begins with each line of the design being formed of a ribbon copper wire, creating \'cloisons\' or cells.The wires are then fused to the copper base. The enamel, ground to a powder and moistened with water, is laid into the cells and fired in a kiln at 1400 F.This process of filling and firing is repeated, layer upon layer, to achieve a depth of color and shading. Finally the piece is hand ground to a smooth surface and then polished ans plated.
