You are offerding on a WONDERFUL VINTAGE 1939 JAPANESE KOMONO PRE WORLD WAR 2 W/ORIGINAL DATED NEWSPAPER folded within in Excellent condition. This Komono has not been unwrapped since 1939(I had a Japanese speaking friend read the date off the newspaper) as it was folded and had white basting stitches holding it folded together. I just unwrapped it today to take photos. It seems to be made of a heavy crepe like silk and has afew bits of silk and gold threaded embroydery on some flowers. There is one bit of gold thread which needs to be tacked down as shown in the pics. There are also afew tiny holes where I removed some of the basting stiches. It seems they must have used a piece of newspaper to wrap in between the layers of the komono the same way we use tissue when you buy a new shirt today. I purchased this 30 years ago on the Big Island of Hawaii at a really great Antique shop. They had so many vintage pre war Japanese items that you just don\'t see here in the North East...the shopping was great and this was one of the treasures we came back with!
