Vintage French Steel Cut Beaded Evening BagMade in Paris, France
You are offerding on a beautiful French Steel Cut Beaded Evening Bag. The photos just don\'t show how beautifully this bag sparkles in the light. The colors of the beads are auburn, deep gold, silver grey, blue, & black. The design is made of subtle geometrics finished with a row of beaded looped fringe along the bottom. Very elegant, this beaded bag would have been just the sort Daisy Buchanan would have carried in \"The Great Gatsby.\" As you can see in the 5th photo, the design is very lovely and intricate and the beads have a lot of sparkle in the light.
The brass frame has a push button release clasp and an intricate raised floral design. The frame is stamped, \"Made in France.\"
The silk interior is tattered, but the heavy muslin body is still intact. There is a label still sewn on the silk reading, \"Made in Paris, France.\"
The purse measures 8 1/2\" x 6\" and the chain has an 8\" drop.
There are some spots where the beading has loosened. As seen in the 8th photo, there are some loose rows just about 1 1/4\" across in the corner. This is only at the corner, not all the way across. There is also a thread that is not attached. There are some loose beading spots at the bottom corners of the frame (3rd photo). There are 2 spots with loose beading just below the frame. The frame is decorated with a double row of gold beading and on the front there is a spot where there are some beads missing. The purse still displays beautifully, but probably shouldn\'t be used. It looks like most of the loose beading could be repaired with a few stitches. Those of you who collect beaded bags will probably know how to stitch it or know someone who does. Anyway, I wanted to make you aware of this.
This is a really beautiful French Steel Cut Beaded Evening Bag! It would certainly be a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage evening bags and purses.
