VINTAGE Holy Mother Virgin Mary Madonna Paper Mache Exquisite Religious Votive E S C R I P T I O N I have received so many compliments on this piece, it\'s truly beautiful.Here we have a Virgin Mother / Mary / Madonna paper mache bust statue. Statue is a fairly durable paper mache / papier-mâché material, ornately painted to accentuate Mary\'s robe, face and pious gesture.As mentioned, the piece is fairly large, some 18 1/2 inches tall and has a very commanding presence in whatever room its in. But more about the look of the piece:Piece is a head and shoulders bust of the Virgin Mother. She wears robin\'s egg blue robe, with gold star detail at the edge. The folds of her robe are expertly rendered and shaped, as well as finely painted to accentuate their depth/ The Madonna is in somewhat of the 3/4 view with downcast eyes in a mournful, pious expression. Her face is just so beautifully executed.At her neck are more rumpled folds of off white fabric, and just below, a single finger tip extends out from beneath the folds of her robe to clasp the gold star edge of her coat shut.This is an antique piece and does show some signs of wear, but it is, as far as I could tell from examining the piece, limited to the back. On her back right shoulder is a series of cracks, 3 inches long and about 2 1/4 wide at it\'s widest point. Cracks have been glued shut and no longer are splitting apart. On the bottom back of the bust there are a few small areas of chipping, the largest of which is 5/8\" long. There are also cracks along the back underside of the base.
