Presenting a superb vintage Maori Patu which has been
expertly hand carved from one solid piece of beautifully grained timber.

This fine piece features a wonderfully detailed Manaia Tiki figure, with
Tiki head and fish-like tail, to the shoulder of the club. The Manaia Tiki grasps
his belly and is beautifully detailed with an inlaid paua shell eye.

The Reke or butt of the club has been expertly carved into the shape
of a Tiki head, and is again detailed with a paua shell disc eye.

Hewn tool marks to the carved Tikis wonderfully contrast the smooth
face of the club and perfectly reinforce that this is a handcarved piece.

The reverse side of the Patu is flat and unadorned.

This Patu is presented in excellent vintage condition with no cracks, breaks or repairs.
The paua shell eyes are secure and free from damage. The timber has developed a
lovely mellow patina that only time can bring. There is the odd light surface scuff to
the varnished surface which could easily be polished / waxed out but are mentioned for
complete accuracy. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly.

This impressive Patu measures approx
390mms in length and 130mms in width.
