DETAILS

ITEM DESCRIPTION

You are being offered in a BUY NOW sale an early 20th century gas powered iron made for Montgomery Ward of Chicago. I did not find a maker name. The iron may have been made by Akron Lamp Co.

In the early 20th century, Montgomery Ward was the leading retailer of mail order purchasing.

This was recently acquired at an estate sale on Eastern Long Island in New York.

The photos included in this listing are of the item being sold. Please examine them since I am unsure if anything is missing. This item is “sold as is’. If you have any questions, please contact me before offerding.

The iron has chromed fuel tank, a thick wooden handle, and a metal heat guard to protect hand from burning.
The valve on the top of the gas is etched, Montgomery Ward, Chicago.
The iron’s wood handle has a nice patina. Yet, the black paint on the handle has crazing.
The iron and stand are tarnished and rusted.
The top and bottom of the stand has the makers hallmark of a W in a circle and under is is Pat, NOV 23 \'15.

Operation and History of the SadIron:

The sadiron was a basic household tool in the late 1800’s. The first ones had a heavy hand-held flatiron that was heated on a stove and then moved to the ironing board by a detachable wooden handle.

Early in the 20th century, sadiron, such as this, improved. They had a gasoline tank built onto either the back or the front of the iron to provide continuous heat.

These iron’s were comprised of a shoe or ironing surface which was chromed and highly polished. The upper frame was a hollow casting into which white gasoline was injected under pressure to fuel a flame within the casting. A needle-valve could be adjusted to control the flow of the fuel. The fuel was supplied from a small holding tank mounted just behind or in front of the handle of the iron.

With the coming of electricity, however, the Sadiron was no longer in great demand in the U.S.

CONDITION :

The iron is in good condition. (Please note, good condition means an item is used and does not look new. Any significant blemishes will be elaborated on.)
The piece has wear and surface scratches from usage and age.
It has no cracks, breaks or repairs.
The chrome gas, on the bottom has a ding.

From the front of the iron to the back handle measures 10” in length. It is 6.5” high and 3 5/8” wide.
Packaged, the approx. weight is 6 lbs.

PayPal is accepted. All items must be shipped to the address confirmed on your PayPal account.
PayPal eChecks must clear before shipping. PayPal contacts me when eChecks have cleared.
Payment is to be completed within 72 hours of the close of the sale. If it is not, I reserve the right to cancel the sale.

POSTAGE: Paid by the Buyer.

I try to ship items as safely and inexpensively as possible.

Postage labels are printed on line through , discounted postage rates are passed along to Buyers.

Before offerding, I am also willing to discuss using other shipping services. On large items, if arrangements are made prior to the conclusion of the sale, pick up may be a possibility.

POSTAGE REFUNDS : As mentioned below, postage overcharges will be refunded.

If there is a postage overcharge, money due the Buyer will be refunded as stated below.

When listing sale items, I have guesstimated the Shipping and Handling cost.
(As per Policy, Insurance may be included in the Handling fee.)
Insurance is mandatory on items which, in my discretion, are delicate/breakable or of high value.

Upon an sale ending, the Buyer receives an End of sale/Transaction notice from . At this time, the Buyer may pay or contact me for the exact Shipping/Handling cost.

If the Buyer requests additional USPS services aside from what I have offered, they will be contacted to pay these costs.

Once an item is paid for, I package it. (If there is over a dollar difference between the guesstimated Shipping/Handling cost and actual shipping cost, I refund the overcharge.)

HANDLING CHARGE/ INSURANCE:

The Handling Charge is a minimum of $2.50. On large items, the Handling Charge will be more. (First Class items have a handling charge of a dollar.)
The Handling Charge is to cover any or all of the following:(Packaging Materials-bubble wrap, tape, peanuts, box, tube, Styrofoam sheet insulation, etc.) and My Time (packing, shipping and driving to the shipping location.), Insurance. and Surcharge to Sellers on postage.

SHIPPING ADDRESS CHANGE :

SHIPPING : (All Domestic items are shipped with Delivery Confirmation and/or Insured.)

Most items weighing over thirteen ounces are shipped via USPS- Priority Mail. I also offer the option of Parcel Select.
I will ship First Class Mail when a parcel weighs within the USPS weight guidelines.
Media Mail will be used for books, tapes, cd’s and videos.

When your item has been shipped, you will receive an email from notifying you of this.

MULTI-PURCHASES:

RETURN & ADJUSTMENT POLICY:

All correspondence, as is described below, is to be through Messages.

If the item is not as described in the listing and/or as shown in the photos:

The Buyer is to contact me and provide me with clear concise photos of the problem within 14 days from receipt of the item. (The shipper’s tracking delivery date is the date of receipt.)
If the Buyer’s complaint is justified, I will work with you to reach an adjustment. If we are unable to agree, I will accept the item back. It must be shipped within 3 business days of me approving return. ( The Buyer is to ship the item back with the same coverage it had when it was sent unless I state otherwise in an email.
The Buyer will be issued a complete refund for the Cost of the Item, all Shipping Costs (including the fee to return the item to me) and Handling charges. The refund will be issued in the same form the item was paid for - PayPal with PayPal, etc.

INSURANCE CLAIM: For reimbursement on insured items that are damaged in transit, the BUYER will file a claim with the Shipping Service.

For all Shippers, the Buyer must provide:

The damaged item, the shipping box with the postage/mailing label and all the packaging materials.
